Solomon is being ruined by his prosperity. He has wealth to absurdity and 1,000 wives and concubines. God has been merciful and slow to anger but Solomon has provoked Him to wrath. God tells him that he will lose much of the kingdom to one of his servants. So we learn that God is very serious about the way that we live.
